Acer Aspire One (and cosy)

It should be possible to automatically close down the wifi connection and unload the kernel module on hibernate.
Look at the scripts in /etc/apm/suspend.d for example.
/etc/default/acpi-support might also have some options to get you somewhere. I put my normal ethernet driver module (e1000) in MODULES="" here.
If it’s anything like the Asus that I have, then it should be relatively easy to put Ubuntu on it, like I’ve done with mine. Put installer on to a bootable USB stick…
Derick: thanks for the pointers, I’ll have to play with that sometime!
Simon: Its really new hardware and I’m reading of people not managing to drive all the peripherals. My plan is to try to live with it for a few months and then install ubuntu once everyone else has figured out all the tricks! I’m neither expert enough or interested enough to figure this stuff out myself.
I’ve recently acquired an EeePC 900 as a quick-fix to a terminally dead laptop. I’d have bought an Aspire One, but it wasn’t out when I bought mine and I needed a new computer right away. Anyway, I can echo your frustrations with hardware issues and the default install of Linux not being all that great. In my case, it also involved a two-day fight-to-the-death to make it talk to my mobile broadband modem, which resulted in several sense of humour failures and the whole thing nearly going back to the shop. Anyway, it mostly works now. But I’m still saving up for a proper computer…
Michael: Hey there! Luckily I still have the usual selection of other devices at my disposal and this is just for staying in touch when I’m out on the road. I haven’t had any major battles with it yet and it certainly weighs a lot less than my work laptop!
Nice cosy :) have you tried to install any of the other linux os’s on it yet? i believe theres a nice version of ubuntu thats designed for netbooks
if i deserve a slap for that then stick on slackware for extra l33tness :)
Mark: I’m itching to try ubuntu on it but since the device is so new I’m seeing people still having teething problems getting all the peripherals working – and I need this working for an event I’m going to next week so I’m holding my horses for now. Ubuntu with XFCE and the additional netbooks stuff is definitely on the agenda later on though!
hey, great post!
but… you know about sewing AND sudo?
surely… surely not. ;)
my love for my new toy is driving me towards making my own cover – i’m thinking corduroy :]

Beth: I so nearly went with corduroy for mine, but I didn’t really have enough so it ended up with some thick-weaved fabric off an old throw. Let me know if you do make your own – you for sewing AND sudo :)
wow! i see you like it as if it’s your pet!))) that’s great i wanna say! г can call him or her Acy as i do)))

I may have mentioned my new acer aspire one already, and I probably also mentioned the problems I had with it not reading my camera card. The camera is a Fuji Finepix, and the card is a 2GB XD card - XD is the format used by Fuji and by Olympus apparentl
