This is a great article, a real view from the inside. I’ve started a few open source projects in my time and it wasn’t until I wrote one in PHP that I really saw it work like an open source project, with developers around the World getting involved and offering translations for the documentation and features and bug fixes for the code. Previous open source projects have really just been things I have written that other people use for free because the code is released under a permissive license – so kudos to the PHP community for actually contributing back to the project.

I will definitely take away the ideas about the roadmap and communication, which in particular I don’t think I’m handling very well and I will try to improve at these areas before I come back and take on some more suggestions.
