Home-Sewn Cushions

I have a little sewing machine and a newly-decorated living room. So what could be more obvious than making new cushions for my sofa? I'm planning a whole set but here are the first two:

Two new cushions

The one on the left is my personal favourite, it is felt flowers just cut out and then stitched onto the cushion with embroidery floss and running stitch. The other is the first one I did, with lovely turquoise beads sewn on and then stitching around them. Here are a couple of close-ups:

The first cushion has an interesting overlap on its back, where my spatial awareness failed me when trying to sew layered overlapping things together inside out. The second time, I pinned the first seam while the cushion was the right way out, so I could be sure which way it would end up!

Hey, those flowers are brilliant!!
Have never been a big fan of felt, but actually thinking I might try some of that myself.
Very artistic, well done!

Alex: Felt is easy because it doesn’t fray or stretch. And as for artistic, not really, the templates are here: http://tinyurl.com/5s6dfv. I am an assembler-of-things, not a creator :)

That’s so cool! I wish I had a knack for that kind of stuff, but alas, I’ll have to make to with watching other people make cool stuff :)

Emma: I can do a tutorial on the next one if that helps? Its going to be sewing, straight lines only, using the sewing machine.

I don’t have a sewing machine, I don’t even have needles and threads! It’s been over 15 years since I last used either I think :)

i have sewing mechine. ican do straight lines easily . and needle work as well
